Things are beginning to come together for the tournament and there seems to be quite a bit of interest starting to brew. Here is a couple of links with some more information. One is an article that was written up for Outdoor Canada Magazine. You can read the article here. The other is a radio interview that Michelle Trudeau did for CJOB Radio in Manitoba. Visit http://www.cjob.com/StationShared/AudioVault.aspx, select Wed. Feb 18 under the date, 8 PM under time and select the Listen button. The interview begins around 21:00 minutes into the program. The Angler & Young Angler Tournaments (AYA) is a relatively new series created in 1998 in Manitoba and has since grown to 20 different regional tournaments. The main objective is to introduce and educate young anglers to competitive sport fishing in a fun environment surrounded by family and friends.

Deerbrook Marina is very excited and proud to be able to host a regional tournament in 2009. This will be the AYA's first bass tournament. The majority of their tournaments are walleye and in fact, the International Championship held on Lake of The Woods will be a walleye tournament. The date for our tournament will be Saturday July, 11/09 with a rain date of Sunday, July 12/09. Each team will consist of one adult and two youths 17 or younger. Entry fee is $150.00 per team and we are limited to only 40 teams. Anyone is eligible to fish as long as the one adult/two youths format is followed.

Each event includes an official weigh-in, prizes, awards and a BBQ to follow a hard day’s fishing. The winner of each regional event qualifies for the opportunity to participate in the International Championship.

Every AYA Regional Event is guaranteed the following prizes:

• Lund boat

• Motor

• Trailer

• Trolling Motor

There will also be other prizes to be handed out as well.

The first place team at the International Championship wins the title of 'Angler & Young Angler International Champions', and official AYA jackets, as well as an all expense paid trip for 6.
